JOBS AT NIMBA UNIVERSITY

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT)

Information Technology exists to support the mission of the university, as defined by the university authority. Investment decisions in information technology are driven principally by the desire to improve the way work is done, improve decision-making, and help the organization manage its risks.

Universities depend on IT services to conduct research, improve teaching and learning, and provide administrative support. Making appropriate investments in IT requires effective decision-making on the part of university leadership. Lack of vision and financial resources to invest in IT support projects will have a negative effect on the general effective operations of the university.

As part of the IT Support Services at Nimba University, the IT Help Desk provides support to faculty, students, staff, affiliates, and other community system members.

 NU IT Policies

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) maintains policies with regard to the use and security of its information technology resources. All users of these resources (staff, faculty, students, and guests) are expected to be familiar with these policies and the consequences of violation. These are policies developed to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of University data.

Aside from servicing the day-to-day service requests, the IT Department of the university takes care of preventive maintenance, upgrading, systems engineering, developing and managing of NU website, www.nu.edu.lr, and other infrastructure tasks of the university. The department currently serves in dual capacities, administrative and academic functions. There are plans to separate the academic component from administrative tasks as resources become available.

At the administrative level, the department provides technical support to the university community. The department is responsible to provide the infrastructure for automation, implementing the governance for the use of networks, operating systems, and also assisting the operational units by providing the technical skills they will need.

At the academic level, the IT Department designs and runs the Information Technology program that assists students to pursue their passion and develop their skill sets. The courses offered are tailored only for AA program and provide students with experience in key courses of Information Technology, taught by welled-experienced IT professionals. The academic component is currently under the College of Engineering and Geosciences.
